I have Eurovision, I have Asia, UGH! | Thoughts on Eurovision Asia

So this happened.

I'm sure most people are familliar with it, but for those who don't know Eurovision is an international TV song competition where various European artists compete, represtening their country. It was recently announced that for the first time Eurovision Asia will be held, which will be the Asia-Pacific counterpart of the contest. Little is set in stone yet but it's expected to take place in 2018.

Now, despite being European myself I have to admit that I've never actually watched Eurovision. I know, shocking. Please don't throw rocks at me. I do know a little about it however (YOHIO is the king weeb) and I think this could prove to be quite entertaining.

I thought it was a joke when I first heard about it, mainly due to the fact that it was called "Eurovision Asia" rather than "Asiavision" or something like that. But it turns out the reason for that is that the name "Asiavision" is already in use, and they also wanted to make their ties with the original Eurovision more evident.

So of course after finding out about this, as a Jpop fan my first thoughts were, "which artist will be representing Japan?". I can think of a few candidates already. Girl group AKB48 have just recently taken the title of best-selling female artist in Japanese history away from the likes of Ayumi Hamasaki. It's virtually impossible to be a Jpop fan and not know AKB48.

In terms of boy groups, Johnny's Entertainment group ARASHI constantly dominate the Japanese music charts and the Japanese entertainment industry in general but then again, Johnny's Entertainment have never been very internationally-friendly. Please Johnny's, Sexy Zone would be perfect for this. As for soloists, names such as Utada Hikaru and Koda Kumi spring to mind. There are also artists such as BABYMETAL, May J., GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE, and ONE OK ROCK who might also prove to be good choices since they already have a considerable amount of influence overseas. I've even seen a few people suggesting Aoi Shouta, which probably isn't likely but it would make me really happy since he's my favourite soloist!

As for me, most of the Jpop artists I like aren't very popular so it would be unlikely that they'd be chosen. The one artist I really don't want it to be though is Pikotaro, haha. As much of a work of art "PPAP" is, I'd like people to start seeing the serious side of Japanese music! If PSY is representing South Korea then I literally will sigh.

What about you? What are your thoughts on Eurovision Asia? What artists do you want to see representing Japan, South Korea, or any other country? Let me know down below!
